Regulatory status
Formerly FDA-approved as Geref in the 1990s (for growth-hormone-deficiency diagnosis/treatment); the brand was later withdrawn from the US market and is not currently marketed as an approved product — today it is supplied only via 503A compounding. What the literature reports
- Sermorelin is a growth-hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) analog — the first 29 amino acids of human GHRH — that acts as a growth-hormone secretagogue.
- Its published blood half-life is very short, about 11–12 minutes after either intravenous or subcutaneous administration (Ishida et al., 2020).
- It received US FDA approval in the 1990s as Geref for growth-hormone-deficiency work-up; the brand was later withdrawn from the US market and is now supplied via compounding rather than as an approved product.
